Transportation

SIP offers two shuttle services in 2024. There is a North (Silicon Valley) shuttle and a South (Salinas/Watsonville) shuttle operated by  Lux Bus America. The shuttles are contracted through UCSC to comply with university insurance and safety requirements.

Important items for interns taking the North or South shuttle:

  • Interns are responsible for being on time to ride the shuttle. The shuttle will depart as noted on the schedule and will not wait for students who are late.
  • SIP staff will email a weekly roster of shuttle sign-ups to all interns the previous week. Each intern must show the shuttle driver a print out of that week’s shuttle roster (or a copy of the roster on their smart phone or tablet) along with picture ID as proof of their eligibility.
  • Parents are responsible for pick up at a timely manner as there will be no supervision at the shuttle stops.

The SIP program aims to offer an efficient, convenient, and secure transportation service while covering its costs without generating a profit. Other options for families to consider are private carpools, public transportation, or older interns driving themselves to campus.
